Embracing Impermanence: Finding Lasting Joy Beyond the Outer World

During my morning walk, my mind drifted to thoughts about the last of my freelance writing work that had recently ended. Then, a realization came to me: “Ah, this is what impermanence looks like in the outer world.”

The wise sages and spiritual masters have long understood the nature of impermanence in the outer form—the external world. Yet many of us, myself included, still turn to, and sometimes even cling to, these outer circumstances for a sense of security and fulfilment.

Impermanence, as a concept, continues to have much to teach me as I deepen my understanding of it. What I’ve found to be true is that the inner state is far more important than the outer form. Feelings of joy and gratitude can arise anytime, anywhere, once we remember to tap into them—making them a far more reliable source of happiness than anything the outer world can offer.
