Dear readers,
How have you been? I’ve been mostly well, and I’ve needed some time away from the blog to recalibrate, rest, and feel inspired again.
It’s already September, and with fall underway, perhaps this is a good time to begin slowing down—to gather our resources, replenish our energy, and gently prepare ourselves for the final months of the year.
On my end, I’ve recently been embracing slow living—or what I like to call mindful balanced living: an unhurried way of living that invites us to honour each moment, each activity, and each intention.
I’ve been heavily inspired by watching vlogs about life in the English countryside, and something about them has captivated me. Perhaps it’s the return to a simpler yet fuller way of life—one that isn’t so bound by hustle culture, constant productivity, or endless consumerism.
There’s something beautiful about finding contentment in the ordinary: preparing a home-cooked meal, tending to the garden, baking something from scratch, enjoying a cup of tea, or simply taking the time to notice the changing seasons.
Ironically, though, I’ve also been having lots of new ideas for Inner Balance Wellness. I’ll be mindfully putting them together and offering them in time. The business has gone through some changes compared to last year, partly in response to my own healing journey, but I look forward to continuing to hold space for individuals in different ways.
For now, here are some habits I’m embracing as I practise slow living—or, in my words, mindful balanced living:
1. Savour the Now
Be fully present in everyday moments. Instead of constantly thinking about what comes next, give yourself permission to simply be where you are.
2. Simplify Your Life
Declutter your physical space, let go of what drains you, and gently release the things that no longer serve you. Focus on what truly matters.
3. Nourish Yourself
Care for your mind, body, and spirit with kindness. Rest when you need to, eat nourishing food, spend time in nature, and create little rituals that make you feel cared for.
4. Create Meaning
Make more space for the things that bring you joy, creativity, and fulfilment. For me, that means picking up baking again! There’s something wonderfully grounding about slowing down to make something with your own hands.
5. Live in Harmony
Find balance within yourself and honour your own rhythm. You don’t have to live according to someone else’s timeline. Some seasons are for growth, some are for doing, and some are simply for resting and being.
Perhaps, as we enter the final stretch of the year, we don’t always need to do more.
Perhaps we can simply slow down, come home to ourselves, and savour the life that is already here.
Here’s to a gentler September—and a slower, more meaningful rest of the year.
Warmly,
Melissa
